Email Threats Put Punjab’s School Security Under Strain as Patiala Joins Growing List
A bomb threat emailed to a leading private school in Patiala has heightened anxiety across Punjab’s education sector, marking the third such incident in just 11 days. Following similar alerts in Amritsar and Jalandhar, the latest message prompted an immediate evacuation and a full-scale security operation. Although no explosive material was found, the recurrence of these threats has underscored vulnerabilities in institutional safety and digital security. Law enforcement agencies are treating the matter with urgency, combining physical security measures with cyber investigations to trace the origin of the emails and prevent further disruption.
Threat Email Triggers Swift Evacuation
The latest threat was received around 9.30 am at the official email address of Ryan International Global School in Patiala’s Urban Estate Phase-2. Acting without delay, school authorities evacuated students and staff as a precautionary step and informed the police. Emergency protocols were activated to ensure there was no risk to life, reflecting a zero-tolerance approach toward potential threats.
Intensive Search by Anti-Sabotage Teams
Police teams reached the school premises within minutes of receiving the alert. An anti-sabotage squad conducted an extensive search of the campus using specialised bomb detection tools, including a Non-Linear Junction Detector, along with sniffer dogs. The operation was carried out methodically to rule out the presence of any explosive device. Officials confirmed that nothing suspicious was found during the inspection.
Police Response and Preventive Measures
Confirming the incident, Patiala’s Senior Superintendent of Police said the threat was handled with utmost seriousness. Despite the absence of any explosive material, authorities ordered another round of checks as a precaution. The school administration was advised to declare a holiday for the day to eliminate any residual risk and to reassure parents and students.
Cyber Wing Probes Digital Trail
The Punjab Police cyber wing has launched a parallel investigation to trace the source of the threatening email. Efforts are underway to identify the IP address and determine the country and state from which the message originated. Officials indicated that similar emails have been sent to schools in other cities in recent days, raising concerns about a coordinated attempt to exploit digital anonymity.
Pattern of Threats Across Punjab
The Patiala incident follows bomb threat emails sent to multiple schools in Amritsar on December 12, which led to widespread evacuations and temporary closures. Two days later, as many as 11 schools in Jalandhar received similar messages. In all cases, anti-sabotage teams carried out searches, and no explosives were recovered. However, schools remained closed for the day as a safety measure.
Ongoing Investigation and Public Advisory
Despite multiple incidents, police have yet to identify the individuals behind the emails. Investigations remain ongoing, and security agencies are on high alert to prevent any untoward incident. Authorities have urged the public not to panic, emphasizing that every threat will continue to be treated seriously while steps are taken to strengthen both physical security and cyber monitoring across educational institutions.
